On Saturday 26 June 2021, the official presentation of the book La Salle in Soller (1905-1938) by its author Josep Antoni Morell Gonzàlez took place in Mallorca. The event was celebrated in the afternoon in the presence of many guests at the Convent of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart in Soller, where the first Brothers of the Christian Schools lived.
On this occasion, there were three speakers who each highlighted not only the historical aspect of the brief presence of the Brothers of the Christian Schools for 33 years in Soller, but also and above all the positive impact of these years of educational mission in the Mallorcan environment. Brother Rafael Matas, General Councillor of the Institute and a native of the country, Rector Mossen Miquel Mulet Buyosa, Moderator of the session, and the author of the book himself, in turn, spoke of the historical and providential presence of the Brothers who brought a pedagogical and educational revolution to the country, thus marking the local history 83 years after the departure of the Brothers of the Christian Schools from Soller.
The De La Salle Brothers of Mallorca and of Rome were keen to honour with their presence this celebration which witnesses the ever-living charism of St. John Baptist de La Salle with this book by Josep Antoni Morell, the fruit of a great deal of collaboration and consultation of various archives, among which are the Central Archives of the Institute in Rome. The author has also dedicated his life to teaching and through this historical research has contributed to the patrimony of the Church and the country.
