Brother Superior General, Robert Schieler, has appointed Brother Vicentiu Ghiurca as Visitor of the District of Central Europe for the second time. The Brother will be in office for a period of four years, from 2 May 2022 to 1 May 2026.

Brother Vicentiu was born on 24 April 1974 in Galbeni, Bacău Province, Romania. He received the religious habit on 14th August 1995 in Austria.

He attended the scholasticate in Iași, and then joined the community and the teaching staff at the school in Pildești, where he taught History and was leader of the local movement of Catholic Action.

He then took on the role of Romania Sector coordinator, and also became administrative director of the Liceum La Salle.

In November 2014, he was appointed Auxiliary Visitor of the Central European District, of which Romania is a Sector. And in 2018, he received his first appointment as Visitor of the same District.

The District of Central Europe consists of seven countries (Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia), with the northernmost part of the Netherlands being 1800 km from the southernmost part of our District in Romania. In total, five different languages are spoken in the Central European District, more than 4,100 students attend our eight schools with 700 teachers and educators. The District of Central Europe is part of RELEM and consists of four areas: Austria (including Hungary and the Czech Republic), the Netherlands, Romania and Slovakia. The District is in close contact with the schools in Germany, which are now run by the Diocese of Augsburg. There are 44 Brothers living in the District.
